Home Economics: Make Ahead Breakfast Melts

imageToday is Sister Day, one of my favorite days of the year! For the last seven years, my five “sisters” and I meet for a holiday brunch the Sunday before Christmas. We all bring five of our favorite things (around $5) and share with the rest of the group. It’s a potluck brunch and we take turns hosting. For the last few years, I have been in charge of the main dish and have been making a recipe that Meredith, one of group, introduced us to, The Pioneer Woman’s Make Ahead Breakfast Melts. Click here for the recipe. This recipe is so good! It is so wrong it is right! Breakfast egg salad with bacon and melted cheese on an English muffin! I’m in!

The Beauty Locker: Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter

imageFor some reason, I’m not a huge body lotion fan. I have bottles and containers all over my house, but I never use them. I rarely finish a bottle, and sometimes just throw them away. However, my mind has been changed by Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter. This product is amazing! My friend, Meredith, brought it as her Sister Day gift to this year’s brunch. I’m hooked! It smells so good, it’s not greasy, and it’s only $4.99. Remember, the Sister Day gift limit is $5! I keep it by my bed and use it before bed and in the morning. I recently bought several more containers to keep in my gift closet (I’ll do a separate post about my gift closet soon!) because it will be a perfect last minute gift. Try it, I’m pretty sure you will love it!

Home Economics: A Pj’s and pearls party,

imageI have loved Lauren Conrad since her Laguna Beach and Hills days. Today I follow The Beauty Department(Lauren’s collaboration with her hair and makeup team) and Lauren’s website.  Lauren (I feel like we would be on a first name basis if we met) posted this as a possible Oscar party theme…. and I love it! This is definitely going to be the theme for this year’s Sister Day, one of my favorite days of the year. I ran it by the rest of the “sisters” and they are all on board! I am the oldest sister and can be a little bossy. One year I added a craft, and now I’m adding a theme! Sister Day is held annually the Sunday before Christmas and our group has been friends for years. We all pick a favorite thing from the year (approx. $5) and you bring one for each sister. I spend a lot of time deciding on my Sister Day gift each year. I’m not going to lie, it is a little bit stressful! This year, one of our sisters was across the country, so we sent her gifts and Skype’d her in when we opened our gifts. Sister Day is a wonderful tradition and I think the PJ’s and Pearls theme is a perfect fit! We can be comfortable and fabulous at the same time. Check out the details here
