Dress Code: Working my new midi skirt

imageToday, I wanted to wear my new black pleated midi skirt that I bought at the Banana Republic outlet for $20. Get used to it, because I will be wearing it a lot this season! This type of skirt can be unflattering for my body type. It’s all about choosing the right shirt. It can’t be too long or too short, and it needs to fitted in order to be flattering. I decided to wear my new favorite skirt with a black and white stripped sleeveless t-shirt from Old Navy and bright yellow short-sleeved cardigan from Ann Taylor Loft. I finished the outfit with my Tory Burch leopard and lace pumps and a huge black ribbon and rhinestone statement necklace from Banana Republic.

Dress Code: Sunday = fun day!

imageI had such a fun weekend! I headed down to San Diego for a birthday celebration on Saturday night. Of course, that led to brunch on Sunday morning to debrief the soirée. The party was in Hillcrest, so we walked a few blocks to a cute little restaurant for breakfast. I packed my white Gap boyfriend jeans and a black j’adore graphic t-shirt from Old Navy for Sunday. I wore them with a Coach leopard hat, a pink Kate Spade bracelet, and my black Tory Burch sandals. I always pack a hat when I travel, just in case of a bad hair day. Let’s just say, I’m glad that I had it! The outfit worked well for brunch and outlet shopping on the way home. Details on my shopping purchases will be shared this week!

Passing Notes: Back to school shopping at The Outlets at Orange

imageOne of my favorite back to school traditions is picking out my first day of school dress. I was starting to think this was going to be the year that I didn’t have something to new to wear :(. However, I solved the problem by heading to The Outlets at Orange for a quick shopping trip. It is always best to hit an outlet mall on a holiday weekend, because stores usually offer extra discounts and incentives.

My first stop is always the Banana Republic outlet. I was greeted with huge signs that read “50% off entire store.” Music to my ears! And, I also had $20 worth of reward coupons. I ended up buying three dresses, a leopard wrap dress for $19.99, a navy shift with a lemon and lime pattern, and a navy blue fit and flare dress. I will be wearing these new frocks during the first week of school. Dresses are so easy! One piece, add a necklace, and you are ready to go! I also found three lightweight sweaters, gray with yellow polka dots, a leopard pattern, and a black and ivory striped “ciao” sweater. They look good on their own, but look even better layered with a denim work shirt. I also found two cute tank tops that will be great to layer with, one black with white hearts and the other is hot pink with a tiny bee print. They will be perfect with a pencil skirt and cardigan. Three dresses, three sweaters and two tops totaled $200. Now I need it to cool down so I can start wearing sweaters!

Next, I stopped by the Old Navy outlet. I am in love with all their graphic t-shirts. I wanted to buy them all, but settled on the black “j’adore” and white “holy chic” shirts.

My last stop was at the Ann Taylor factory store. They had the same deal as Banana, 50% off everything. I found this adorable black dress with tan polka dots for $20 and multi-strand pink necklace.

I really wanted to go to the Nordstrom Rack, as I have $200 in Nordstrom Notes, but I was all shopped out! Next time!

Homework: What is your favorite back to school tradition?

Dress Code: Navy and pink, a lovely combination… I think!

imageI recently bought these navy blue khaki pants at Gap for $20. I knew I wanted to wear them with something fun, so I shopped in my closet and found this navy, linen tunic from J. Crew to go with my new pants. I love that it has a tiny gold chain detail around the edges. It’s pretty sheer, so I needed to wear a camisole underneath it. I chose a white one from Old Navy. I love the contrast between navy and white. Next comes the bling! This blue and pink statement necklace from the J. Crew factory website was the perfect match to my party fuchsia Tory Burch Reva flats. The only other accessory was my orange Dooney and Bourke vintage tote bag. I felt like I belonged on a cruise ship!

Homework: What is your favorite color to wear with navy blue?

Dress Code: Camo and lavender

imageMy new camo shirt/jacket is very versatile. I love that I can wear it buttoned up as a shirt or unbuttoned as a jacket. I especially love that I paid less than $2 for it, thanks to a gift card from my mom, at Forever 21. It was $25, so I only had to pay the tax. Thanks, mom! I wore it with my super bright lavender khaki pants from Gap. Remember, these pants were $5.97 and then I got 30% off. One of my best deals! I love the contrast between the camo and lavender, so I added a simple black tank top from Old Navy, my black Tory Burch Reva’s, and several gold necklaces to fancy it up.

Homework: What color would you pair with camo?

Dress Code: Traveling, Vegas style!

So, I went back to Vegas for a couple of days this week. I love it there and this was a super fun trip. I always pick my travel outfits carefully. I want to be comfortable and stylish… and warm. I’m always cold on airplanes.

image
For this trip, I wore a black strapless dress that I picked up at Old Navy for $15. It was a great base, and I knew it would be perfect once we landed. Since planes are usually cold for me, layers are important. This camo shirt is perfect as a lightweight jacket. I picked it up at Forever 21 for $25. I wore my fedora since it’s difficult to pack and my black Tory Burch sandals. When we arrived in Vegas, I took off the camo shirt and the dress with the fedora was perfect for the Vegas heat!

For the plane ride home, I wore a navy blue maxi dress that I bought at Old Navy for $15. I added my new Kendra Scott emerald green earrings that I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. The rest of the outfit was recycled from my previous outfit. The camo shirt, sandals, and fedora worked great with this dress, too. The airport was super cold, so I was so glad I had the long-sleeved shirt with me.

I used my black Tory Burch tote bag as my carry on and it held two of my C. Wonder clutches inside. I used one clutch as my IPad case and one as a purse. It gave me options as I could easily switch out the clutches, depending on my outfit. I also had a few magazines and snacks 🙂

Homework: What is your go-to travel outfit?

Dress Code: Outlet shopping in style!

imageLast week I spent two days in the desert with two of my college sorority sisters. We thought it would be fun to hit the Desert Hills outlets and spend the night at Casino Morongo. We had a great time! We picked up a few really good deals and shared a ton of laughs.

On day one of shopping, I wore my favorite Bitten seersucker pants. They are lightweight and perfect for the desert heat. I wore them with a $5 black tube top I bought last week at H&M. The tube top was perfect for trying on clothes. In most stores I just put tops and sweaters over the tube top, which made for quick shopping since I didn’t have to go into the dressing room! My black Tory Burch sandals and my new Kate Spade initial necklace completed the outfit. I added my trusty beach market fedora after we were done shopping.

On day two of shopping, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with an eyelet top from Old Navy. I wore a neon pink lace cami under the eyelet top, so, of course, I had to add my Kendra’s Scott necklace. I wore the same sandals and hat with this outfit. It was actually a little cold this day, so this outfit was perfect.

image
I bought two pairs of Tory Burch flats at the TB outlet… One pair of party fuchsia Reva’s and a pair of nude patent leather bow flats. I’m in love with both pairs of shoes!

I bought a ton of cardigans! I added three more short-sleeved cardigans from Ann Taylor Loft to my collection. They were only $15 each. I bought a yellow, red, and another black one, since I’ve worn the heck out of the one I have! The J. Crew outlet had the best deals. Everything on the sale rack was an additional 60% off. That
means $12 cardigans and a few other good deals. Banana Republic is usually a gold mine at the outlets. I found a couple of things, but overall was disappointed.

imageI won $70 playing penny slots at the casino, so on day two, I went back to the Kate Spade outlet to buy two bracelets and a necklace… They were free with my winnings!

I try to hit the outlets a few times a year. I never know what I will find! I try to be smart and not get carried away just because something is cheap. I really
liked that we had all day on Wednesday to shop and then we went back for a quick trip on Thursday to buy the things we were still thinking about! We would also have had an opportunity to return purchases we regretted… That didn’t happen! We were happy with all we bought!

Homework: What would you wear to outlet shop?

Dress Code: On Wednesday’s wear lavender and leopard… and eyelet and stripes!

imageToday, I combined a lot of textures and patterns. I started with my favorite lavender khakis from Gap that cost less than $5. I added a white eyelet button up shirt from the clearance rack at Old Navy that was $10. It’s sheer, so I had to wear a camisole under it for work. I then layered on my leopard belt from Banana Republic and a black and white striped cardigan from Nordstrom. My Charming Charlie leopard wrap bracelet and my Franco Sarto ballet flats added the extra touches of pattern. It was a comfortable and fun outfit. I’m getting more adventurous when it comes to mixing patterns. Remember, it doesn’t have to match, it needs a to go together. And leopard is now officially a neutral!

Homework: How have you been working leopard into your wardrobe as a neutral?

Dress Code: A bedazzled sweatshirt!

imageSometimes you just need to bust out a bedazzled sweatshirt and rock it at work! I found this one on the clearance rack at Old Navy for $8. I paired it with my satin-trimmed black t-shirt from Banana Republic and my favorite black pencil skirt from Nordstrom. My Coach wedges finished off the look. It was an quick and easy outfit, perfect for a Monday.

Homework: How would you style a bedazzled sweatshirt?
