I love how this outfit came together, and it follows the fashion philosophy of Stacy and Clinton from TLC’s “What Not to Wear.” Stacy and Clinton always emphasized that an outfit should include texture, pattern and shine. I loved that show and really miss it! Today’s outfit is in their honor…
I recently bought this cute red top at the Banana Republic outlet and it was only $12. I wore it with my black leather Anthropology skirt (shine) and my black quilted cardigan from Nordstrom (texture). I then added my leopard and lace Tory Burch pumps (pattern). I finished the look with a couple of bracelets, including a leopard wrap bracelet from Charming Charlie (pattern) and a few Kate Spade bangles, and my black quilted patent leather Tory Burch tote bag (texture and shine).
Homework: How would you mix texture, pattern and shine?
I eyed this Bauble Bar statement necklace at Nordstrom for the last couple of months… and now it’s mine.
Funny story, I went to Nordstrom last weekend to return two bracelets that I bought during the summer Anniversary Sale. The bracelets were really cute, but would not stay closed. I thought I paid the sale price of $17.99 for each bracelet, but when the sales associate looked up my purchase, it turned out I paid $28 for each bracelet. This amazing Bauble Bar statement necklace was on sale for $30, and since I returned the two bracelets, it was technically FREE! Yay!
I wanted to wear this necklace with something fun, so of course, I pulled out my favorite Gap camo khakis. I paired them with a black tunic from Brass Plum at Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. I added a few Kate Spade bracelets and I was ready for a great day.
I’ve been waiting almost a year to wear this graphic t-shirt! I found this anti-drug muscle t-shirt at Forever 21 last year, about a week after Red Ribbon Week, an annual event in October that promotes a healthy lifestyle and no drug use. It was on $12.99 and I had to have it! I knew I would wear it the day of our Red Ribbon assembly. I decided to wear the shirt with my H & M leopard print “Hammer” pants and a vintage Classiques black blazer from Nordstrom. It was a fun outfit with a great message!
Homework: Do you have a favorite graphic t-shirt?
I wear my leopard “MC” Hammer pants from H & M on days I know are going to be super busy. They are so comfortable, almost like pajamas! Today, I wore them with a simple black tunic from the Brass Plum at Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. If I wear these pants with flats, they look really casual. As soon as I add a heel or wedge, it instantly dresses up the pants and makes them appropriate for work. To complete my look for the school day, I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace and a hot pink Kate Spade bangle bracelet. If I’m wearing leopard and black, I almost always add hot pink as an accent color. It’s such a fun color combination!
Leopard, hot pink, and a monogram… I love it when all my favorite things come together in one outfit! Even though it is still rather hot out, I decided to dress for fall and wear one of my new favorite sweaters. I bought this leopard print sweater a few weeks ago at the Banana Republic outlet for $25. Since it was a warm day, I didn’t layer it with anything. I do think it will look really chic with my denim worksheet underneath when it get a little chilly. This cute sweater paired perfectly with my classic Halogen black pencil from Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. I decided to skip the necklace and pile on the bracelets. I was really excited about wearing my new Stacy Brown Design tassels monogram beaded bracelet. It’s adorable and it was only $19.99. I added a coral and pink bangle from Banana Republic with a hot pink bangle from Kate Spade. The orange and hot pink accessories gave this outfit just the right pop of color!
Homework: What will you wear on the first cool day of fall?
I seriously can’t get enough of these Gap camo pants and I love trying to figure out new ways to wear them. Today, I decided to add texture to jazz up the camouflage pattern. I found this royal blue eyelet tank top at the Banana Republic outlet for about $12 and knew it would be a great layering piece with a ton of things on my closet. Once I had the electric blue and camo combo picked out, I added my nude Tory Burch bow flats from the TB outlet and my Kate Spade “one in a million” initial necklace from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I added an ivory cardigan from the Gap for work and then took it off for a night out with friends.
Homework: Take the night off!
I got a little crazy with patterns today, and I love the way this outfit turned out! I started with a black and white geometric print, pleated silk skirt from the Banana Republic outlet. Next, I added a black and white stripped tank top from Ann Taylor Loft. Since these two patterns are pretty bold, I softened the look by adding a third pattern, a gray cardigan with white polka dots from Nordstrom. I needed a pop of color, so of course, I added my Party Fuschia Tory Burch Reva’s.
I forgot to take a picture of my outfit in the morning, so I quickly snapped a selfie in the parking of my gym. 😄
Homework: Which patterns have you experimented with recently?
Happy Friday! Today is the perfect day for my neon coral khaki pants from Gap. They are so bright and cheery. I found these pants for $2.97 and then they were 30% off. Best. Deal. Ever! Since the pants make such a bold statement, I decided to keep the rest of the outfit fairly simple. I added a black tunic t-shirt from the Brass Plum department at Nordstrom. It was part of the Anniversary Sale and a steal at $17.99. I then put on my leopard Franco Sarto flats and my adorable, striped Kate Spade bangle. It’s the perfect Friday outfit!
Homework: How would you style neon pants?
This is a difficult time of the year for fashionistas! Fall sales are in full swing, yet it is still 80 degrees out. So my cute fall purchases are hanging up and waiting anxiously to be worn. In honor of my favorite season, this week’s dress code posts will highlight my best purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.
I can’t wait to wear this outfit! It’s perfect for a chilly, fall Friday at work and/or dinner and a movie after school. These Vince Camuto leggings are the best. I bought a similar pair last year and wore them all the time. They are a thick knit and hold their shape well. This Caslon black knit tunic is the perfect topper. It’s super flattering because it it long enough to cover my backside, and it will look great with my other leggings and my black skinny jeans. I’m in love with this tan, fur infinity scarf from the Brass Plum. It reminds me of teddy bear fur! It’s the exact color of Christopher Bear, my family’s mascot, and it is so soft and warm. This outfit would look cute with flats, but will look even better with these black leather Enzo Angiolini riding boots. I have freakishly large calves, and I had the hardest time finding fabulous boots that fit. These boots are made for “athletic calves” and fit like a glove! The only other accessories needed are my emerald green Kendra Scott earrings and a gold nail bracelet. I can’t wait for a cold day to wear this perfect fall outfit.
Homework: What is your favorite fall purchase?
Last weekend I attended an SDSU Alpha Phi reunion and I needed two cute going-out outfits. As I was packing, I found this adorable reddish pink Velvet brand dress in my closet that I bought at Anthropology about six years ago. It was perfect for our Friday night dinner activities. It was really hot in the valley, so this jersey sundress was light-weight enough to handle the heat. We were going to a casual Mexican restaurant for dinner, so I didn’t need to be super dressed up. I styled this dress with my new Kate Spade initial necklace that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and my usual wrist bling. My black Coach wedges finished off the look. On Saturday night, I wanted to get a little more fancy. Clearly, I am obsessed with all things camo, so I decided to figure out a way to make my favorite Gap camo khakis work. My black sequined tank top from Banana Republic was the perfect way to jazz up the camo pants. I was so excited to wear this combo. I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace, several Kate Spade bracelets (including the pink one I won at Casino Morongo), my Kate Spade glitter clutch, and Coach wedges. I love the way this outfit came together.
I had such an amazing weekend. It was awesome to reconnect with so many of my Alpha Phi sisters that I hadn’t seen in years. We reminisced and laughed all weekend.
Homework: What is your favorite “going-out” look?
