Today was all about the accessories! I wore my black and white, geometric print pleated skirt from Banana Republic with my black and gold studded Michael Kor’s t-shirt. Then I started piling on a ton of fun jewelry. I liked the way yesterday’s necklaces looked, so I found three more to wear together. I started with a long gold mini tassel necklace from C. Wonder, then added a single tassel pendant necklace from Ann Taylor, and finished the look with a vintage Chanel button charm that I bought at a Christmas boutique. The bracelets came next! I started with my hot pink, Kate Spade leather bow bracelet for a pop if color. A few more Kate Spade bangles and a multi-strand leather and chain bracelet from Forever 21 created the perfect arm party! Lots of accessories for a fun day!
Last night I celebrated a dear friends birthday down in San Diego. The invitation for the party stated the dress code was “dive bar casual.” I knew I would start with my Joe’s boyfriend jeans, as they are perfect dive bar attire. I then added a black, gold-studded Michael Kors t-shirt and my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace. Next, I piled on the Kate Spade bracelets and put on my leopard and lace Tory Burch pumps. I was ready to go! It was a fun outfit and a great party to celebrate my friend Duane’s birthday!
Homework: What would you wear to a “dive bar casual” party?
I’m headed out to do a little outlet shopping this week with two of my college sorority sisters. We have a reunion coming up soon, so we thought it would be fun to shop for some new outfits. Now, I’m sure you have figured out by now, that I wouldn’t just show up at the outlets without doing some prep work, or what I like to call R and D (research and development). First, I went online and printed out maps of the outlets. Where we are going there are two separate outlets that are right next store to one another. It’s important to look at all the choices and come up with a plan of attack. I started by highlighting the stores I want to visit. For this particular trip, I don’t really need anything specific, I’m looking for some good deals. I have a budget in mind, and will do my best to stick to it! I will for sure start out at the Banana Republic outlet. I’m hoping to find some summer work dresses that I can wear during the first weeks of school when it’s still really hot. Once I know how much of my budget is spent on basics at Banana, then I can move on to Kate Spade and Tory Burch. I definitely hope to find something fun! Kate Spade usually has great deals on jewelry and Tory has amazing shoes and bags. Also on the list is Coach, Burberry, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Michael Kors, and Joe’s Jeans. All my favorite brands! Who knows what I will find!
In preparation for this shopping excursion, I cleaned out my closet and made a trip to Crossroads Trading Company to sell some clothes that no longer fit (too big, yay!). I made $70 selling things that I would have normally donated without thinking about the money making potential. It only took about a half an hour and I have an extra $70 to spend at the outlets.
Homework: How do you prepare for an outlet shopping trip
I scored these amazing leopard Tory Burch shoes off the sale rack at Nordstrom. I wasn’t looking for new leopard pumps, but I had to have them! I don’t want to focus on how much they cost, instead, I will focus on how much I saved! I actually saved more then I spent 🙂 I planned my whole outfit around these shoes and added all things I love. I started with my leather Anthropology skirt that cost $49. What a deal! The front is leather and the back is jersey, so it’s super comfortable. My gold studded Michael Kors t-shirt and hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace were the obvious finishing touches.
It’s fun to wear a combination of all things that you love!
Homework: If you wore all the things you love, what would that outfit look like?
Today’s outfit was a quick and simple one. I found this fun pink and black striped skirt for $11 at the Nordstrom Rack. The horizontal stripes were actually flattering because they were different sizes and off centered. I paired the skirt with a black, gold-studded Michael Kors t-shirt I bought at the Michael Kors outlet in Carlsbad. I only added my usual bracelets since the outfit seemed sort of busy. The two pieces were simple, but I think they made quite an impact together! Pink and black has always been one of my favorite color combinations 🙂
Homework: What is your favorite color combination?
During the Nordstrom summer sale, I bought an amazing Michael Kors black pencil skirt with side leather panels. I went to put it on recently, and it no longer fits, which means I’m getting close to my goal. I took it to my tailor, and it was going to cost more than it was worth to to bring it down to my new size. So it was a good thing when I recently stopped by Anthropology to peruse the sale rack and found this leather skirt for $50. The front is leather and the back is jersey. I needed a day-to-evening outfit since I was headed directly to the Teacher of the Year awards right after school. With the leather skirt as the base, I added a Kelly green tank top from The Gap and topped it with another outlet purchase, a black and white striped jersey blazer from Banana Republic. My friend Lisa and I both bought this blazer because it was such a good deal and so versatile. When I can add a statement necklace, I do! I picked this one up at the Ann Taylor factory store in Primm for $10. I love all the colors. My trusty Coach wedges completed the look. One of my teachers called me Leather Tuscadero and we had to do the Leather Tuscadeo and Pinky Tuscaerdo handshakes!
