Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we wear hot pink and leopard

imageI wear my leopard “MC” Hammer pants from H & M on days I know are going to be super busy. They are so comfortable, almost like pajamas! Today, I wore them with a simple black tunic from the Brass Plum at Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. If I wear these pants with flats, they look really casual. As soon as I add a heel or wedge, it instantly dresses up the pants and makes them appropriate for work. To complete my look for the school day, I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace and a hot pink Kate Spade bangle bracelet. If I’m wearing leopard and black, I almost always add hot pink as an accent color. It’s such a fun color combination!

Dress Code: Happy fall, y’all!

imageI made a decision this week. I’m over the summer-like weather and officially dressing for fall. I have so many cute fall purchases ready and waiting to be worn. Today, I needed a two for one outfit; a daytime and evening look. For school, I wore my Vince Camuto black, leather trimmed leggings from last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale with a short- sleeved black sweater that I picked up from the Banana Republic outlet last weekend. I knew I needed a pop if color, so I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace, my hot pink Kate Spade bangle and my new Stacy Brown Design monogram beaded bracelet. My Coach wedges completed the look. Fridays are made for leggings and comfy sweaters!

imageAfter school, I was headed to a high school football game. Since I was going to be on the field, my open-toed wedges were not going to work. All I needed to do was switch out my shoes for my Enzo Angiolini riding boots. I bought these boots at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in July and this was my first opportunity to wear them. The boots are super cute and comfortable and I know I will be wearing them a lot this season.

Homework: What are most excited to wear this fall season?

Dress Code: Birthday party fun!

imageLast night I celebrated a dear friends birthday down in San Diego. The invitation for the party stated the dress code was “dive bar casual.” I knew I would start with my Joe’s boyfriend jeans, as they are perfect dive bar attire. I then added a black, gold-studded Michael Kors t-shirt and my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace. Next, I piled on the Kate Spade bracelets and put on my leopard and lace Tory Burch pumps. I was ready to go! It was a fun outfit and a great party to celebrate my friend Duane’s birthday!

Dress Code: One LBD… two ways

imageLast night was my school’s Back to School. I knew I wasn’t going to have time to go home and change between the end of the school day and the start of the evening event, so I needed to get creative. I decided to use my black sheath dress from Banana Republic as a base and create two unique outfits with it.

For my daytime look(on the left), I wore the dress with a black bow belt from Banana Republic and my black and tan Cole Hahn spectator wedges. I completed the outfit with a neon geometric cardigan from Gap and my hot pink Kendra’s Scott tassel necklace. It was a perfect school day outfit.

Right before Back to School Night, I made a quick switch-a-roo! I swapped out the cardigan out for a black and white fitted blazer and then changed to a leopard print belt. I love mixing stripes and leopard. I then added a hot pink statement necklace, which makes this entire outfit from Banana Republic. The only non-Banana item was my Coach wedges. This outfit was professional and polished. My walkie talkie and clipboard completed the look!

Using a simple black dress as a base was an easy solution for two events in one day. I’m glad I didn’t have to pack a separate outfit in a garment bag, drag it to school, and then find a place to hang it during the day.

Homework: What do you have in your closet that can do double duty for daytime and evening events?

Dress Code: Dreaming of fall…

imageThis is a difficult time of the year for fashionistas! Fall sales are in full swing, yet it is still 80 degrees out. So my cute fall purchases are hanging up and waiting anxiously to be worn. In honor of my favorite season, this week’s dress code posts will highlight my best purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.

I can’t wait to wear this outfit! It’s perfect for a chilly, fall Friday at work and/or dinner and a movie after school. These Vince Camuto leggings are the best. I bought a similar pair last year and wore them all the time. They are a thick knit and hold their shape well. This Caslon black knit tunic is the perfect topper. It’s super flattering because it it long enough to cover my backside, and it will look great with my other leggings and my black skinny jeans. I’m in love with this tan, fur infinity scarf from the Brass Plum. It reminds me of teddy bear fur! It’s the exact color of Christopher Bear, my family’s mascot, and it is so soft and warm. This outfit would look cute with flats, but will look even better with these black leather Enzo Angiolini riding boots. I have freakishly large calves, and I had the hardest time finding fabulous boots that fit. These boots are made for “athletic calves” and fit like a glove! The only other accessories needed are my emerald green Kendra Scott earrings and a gold nail bracelet. I can’t wait for a cold day to wear this perfect fall outfit.

Homework: What is your favorite fall purchase?

Dress Code: Going-out outfits!

imageLast weekend I attended an SDSU Alpha Phi reunion and I needed two cute going-out outfits. As I was packing, I found this adorable reddish pink Velvet brand dress in my closet that I bought at Anthropology about six years ago. It was perfect for our Friday night dinner activities. It was really hot in the valley, so this jersey sundress was light-weight enough to handle the heat. We were going to a casual Mexican restaurant for dinner, so I didn’t need to be super dressed up. I styled this dress with my new Kate Spade initial necklace that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and my usual wrist bling. My black Coach wedges finished off the look. On Saturday night, I wanted to get a little more fancy. Clearly, I am obsessed with all things camo, so I decided to figure out a way to make my favorite Gap camo khakis work. My black sequined tank top from Banana Republic was the perfect way to jazz up the camo pants. I was so excited to wear this combo. I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace, several Kate Spade bracelets (including the pink one I won at Casino Morongo), my Kate Spade glitter clutch, and Coach wedges. I love the way this outfit came together.

imageI had such an amazing weekend. It was awesome to reconnect with so many of my Alpha Phi sisters that I hadn’t seen in years. We reminisced and laughed all weekend.

Homework: What is your favorite “going-out” look?

Dress Code: Traveling in camo, again!

imageThis weekend I drove to Woodland Hills for a sorority reunion. I was really excited to see some of my Alphi Phi sisters that I kept in touch with via Facebook, but some I hadn’t seen in twenty-five years. We had a blast and I will be sharing more about the reunion this week.

Today, I wanted to focus on my travel outfit. It was about a two hour drive from Orange County, so I need to be comfortable. I ended up wearing my new camo flouncy skirt that I bought during our outlet field trip last week. The skirt was less than $20 at the Banana Republic outlet. I wore it with a black, satin-trimmed t-shirt, also from Banana Republic. I added my new Kendra Scott emerald green earrings from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, a tassel necklace from Ann Taylor, my fedora, and my black Tory Burch sandals to complete the look. When I arrived, it was super hot and a group of us sat outside to greet people as they arrived. This out was perfect! Casual and cool!

Homework: Clearly, my straw fedora is my favorite accessory this summer. What is yours?

Dress Code: Traveling, Vegas style!

So, I went back to Vegas for a couple of days this week. I love it there and this was a super fun trip. I always pick my travel outfits carefully. I want to be comfortable and stylish… and warm. I’m always cold on airplanes.

For this trip, I wore a black strapless dress that I picked up at Old Navy for $15. It was a great base, and I knew it would be perfect once we landed. Since planes are usually cold for me, layers are important. This camo shirt is perfect as a lightweight jacket. I picked it up at Forever 21 for $25. I wore my fedora since it’s difficult to pack and my black Tory Burch sandals. When we arrived in Vegas, I took off the camo shirt and the dress with the fedora was perfect for the Vegas heat!
For the plane ride home, I wore a navy blue maxi dress that I bought at Old Navy for $15. I added my new Kendra Scott emerald green earrings that I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. The rest of the outfit was recycled from my previous outfit. The camo shirt, sandals, and fedora worked great with this dress, too. The airport was super cold, so I was so glad I had the long-sleeved shirt with me.

I used my black Tory Burch tote bag as my carry on and it held two of my C. Wonder clutches inside. I used one clutch as my IPad case and one as a purse. It gave me options as I could easily switch out the clutches, depending on my outfit. I also had a few magazines and snacks 🙂

Homework: What is your go-to travel outfit?

Dress Code: Outlet shopping in style!

imageLast week I spent two days in the desert with two of my college sorority sisters. We thought it would be fun to hit the Desert Hills outlets and spend the night at Casino Morongo. We had a great time! We picked up a few really good deals and shared a ton of laughs.

On day one of shopping, I wore my favorite Bitten seersucker pants. They are lightweight and perfect for the desert heat. I wore them with a $5 black tube top I bought last week at H&M. The tube top was perfect for trying on clothes. In most stores I just put tops and sweaters over the tube top, which made for quick shopping since I didn’t have to go into the dressing room! My black Tory Burch sandals and my new Kate Spade initial necklace completed the outfit. I added my trusty beach market fedora after we were done shopping.

On day two of shopping, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with an eyelet top from Old Navy. I wore a neon pink lace cami under the eyelet top, so, of course, I had to add my Kendra’s Scott necklace. I wore the same sandals and hat with this outfit. It was actually a little cold this day, so this outfit was perfect.

I bought two pairs of Tory Burch flats at the TB outlet… One pair of party fuchsia Reva’s and a pair of nude patent leather bow flats. I’m in love with both pairs of shoes!

I bought a ton of cardigans! I added three more short-sleeved cardigans from Ann Taylor Loft to my collection. They were only $15 each. I bought a yellow, red, and another black one, since I’ve worn the heck out of the one I have! The J. Crew outlet had the best deals. Everything on the sale rack was an additional 60% off. That
means $12 cardigans and a few other good deals. Banana Republic is usually a gold mine at the outlets. I found a couple of things, but overall was disappointed.

imageI won $70 playing penny slots at the casino, so on day two, I went back to the Kate Spade outlet to buy two bracelets and a necklace… They were free with my winnings!

I try to hit the outlets a few times a year. I never know what I will find! I try to be smart and not get carried away just because something is cheap. I really
liked that we had all day on Wednesday to shop and then we went back for a quick trip on Thursday to buy the things we were still thinking about! We would also have had an opportunity to return purchases we regretted… That didn’t happen! We were happy with all we bought!

Homework: What would you wear to outlet shop?
