Dress Code: A weekend at the happiest place in earth!

imageI spent the weekend at Disneyland. It’s an annual tradition with some of my best friends(this was our 8th year). On Saturday, we spent the entire day at California Adventure. It was so much fun! We went on all the best rides and enjoyed all the tourist traps. Soarin’ Over California is my absolute favorite ride in the park. We ended the day watching World of Color, and it was amazing, as usual. On Sunday morning, we headed to Downtown Disney and had brunch at the Jazz Kitchen. The chicken and waffles was to die for!

Now on to my outfits…

On Saturday, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with my black and white heart print tank top from Banana Republic. I just added my straw fedora, a black and white animal print cross body purse, and Tory Burch sandals.

On Sunday, I continued with the black and white theme and wore my white Gap boyfriend jeans with a black flower embellished tank from Banana Republic. I added the same accessories to this outfit… shoes, hat and purse. It made packing super easy!

I wish I had a picture of the outfit I wore down to the hotel bar on Saturday night. I didn’t pack an extra outfit for the evening and I had been in my Disney ensemble for about 15 hours. I had to get out of my jeans! I only had my black Gap pajamas… Well, I wore them with confidence. No one even knew they were pajamas, because they look like loungewear and I added some fun jewelry to dress up the ensemble, black pants and a tank top. It was a make it work moment!

Dress Code: Mad for plaid and a monogram

imageI’m still working on wearing all my new fall purchases. So for a casual Saturday night out, I debuted another one of my Nordstrom Anniversary sale purchases, a Vince Camuto maroon and ivory plaid sweatshirt. This sweatshirt had solids maroon sleeves and the plaid portion in the front is sheer. I wanted a simple and comfortable outfit for dinner with friends, so I wore this cute new top with my Joe’s boyfriend jeans and my black Tory Burch Reva’s. My favorite accessories to add to any plaid shirt are pearls and a monogram. As a result, I added my gold “H” monogram necklace from C. Wonder and my vintage Chanel button ring. I can see myself wearing this sweatshirt on a Friday with a black pencil skirt with heels and then slipping on jeans and flats to head out to dinner and drinks.

Dress Code: Birthday party fun!

imageLast night I celebrated a dear friends birthday down in San Diego. The invitation for the party stated the dress code was “dive bar casual.” I knew I would start with my Joe’s boyfriend jeans, as they are perfect dive bar attire. I then added a black, gold-studded Michael Kors t-shirt and my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace. Next, I piled on the Kate Spade bracelets and put on my leopard and lace Tory Burch pumps. I was ready to go! It was a fun outfit and a great party to celebrate my friend Duane’s birthday!

Dress Code: Outlet shopping in style!

imageLast week I spent two days in the desert with two of my college sorority sisters. We thought it would be fun to hit the Desert Hills outlets and spend the night at Casino Morongo. We had a great time! We picked up a few really good deals and shared a ton of laughs.

On day one of shopping, I wore my favorite Bitten seersucker pants. They are lightweight and perfect for the desert heat. I wore them with a $5 black tube top I bought last week at H&M. The tube top was perfect for trying on clothes. In most stores I just put tops and sweaters over the tube top, which made for quick shopping since I didn’t have to go into the dressing room! My black Tory Burch sandals and my new Kate Spade initial necklace completed the outfit. I added my trusty beach market fedora after we were done shopping.

On day two of shopping, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with an eyelet top from Old Navy. I wore a neon pink lace cami under the eyelet top, so, of course, I had to add my Kendra’s Scott necklace. I wore the same sandals and hat with this outfit. It was actually a little cold this day, so this outfit was perfect.

I bought two pairs of Tory Burch flats at the TB outlet… One pair of party fuchsia Reva’s and a pair of nude patent leather bow flats. I’m in love with both pairs of shoes!

I bought a ton of cardigans! I added three more short-sleeved cardigans from Ann Taylor Loft to my collection. They were only $15 each. I bought a yellow, red, and another black one, since I’ve worn the heck out of the one I have! The J. Crew outlet had the best deals. Everything on the sale rack was an additional 60% off. That
means $12 cardigans and a few other good deals. Banana Republic is usually a gold mine at the outlets. I found a couple of things, but overall was disappointed.

imageI won $70 playing penny slots at the casino, so on day two, I went back to the Kate Spade outlet to buy two bracelets and a necklace… They were free with my winnings!

I try to hit the outlets a few times a year. I never know what I will find! I try to be smart and not get carried away just because something is cheap. I really
liked that we had all day on Wednesday to shop and then we went back for a quick trip on Thursday to buy the things we were still thinking about! We would also have had an opportunity to return purchases we regretted… That didn’t happen! We were happy with all we bought!

Field Trip: Lesson planning for a trip to the outlets

imageI’m headed out to do a little outlet shopping this week with two of my college sorority sisters. We have a reunion coming up soon, so we thought it would be fun to shop for some new outfits. Now, I’m sure you have figured out by now, that I wouldn’t just show up at the outlets without doing some prep work, or what I like to call R and D (research and development). First, I went online and printed out maps of the outlets. Where we are going there are two separate outlets that are right next store to one another. It’s important to look at all the choices and come up with a plan of attack. I started by highlighting the stores I want to visit. For this particular trip, I don’t really need anything specific, I’m looking for some good deals. I have a budget in mind, and will do my best to stick to it! I will for sure start out at the Banana Republic outlet. I’m hoping to find some summer work dresses that I can wear during the first weeks of school when it’s still really hot. Once I know how much of my budget is spent on basics at Banana, then I can move on to Kate Spade and Tory Burch. I definitely hope to find something fun! Kate Spade usually has great deals on jewelry and Tory has amazing shoes and bags. Also on the list is Coach, Burberry, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Michael Kors, and Joe’s Jeans. All my favorite brands! Who knows what I will find!

In preparation for this shopping excursion, I cleaned out my closet and made a trip to Crossroads Trading Company to sell some clothes that no longer fit (too big, yay!). I made $70 selling things that I would have normally donated without thinking about the money making potential. It only took about a half an hour and I have an extra $70 to spend at the outlets.

Dress Code: A scarf as vest… it’s the best!

imageMy spin buddy, Amy, is a Stella and Dot rep and when she saw a picture of me in this red leopard S&D scarf, she promised to show me how to wear it as a vest. I was so excited to learn this trick. Click here for a simple tutorial. Amy showed me live, but I needed a refresher when I went to create it myself.

I was meeting a friend for a movie so I wore my scarf/vest with a simple black t-shirt from Banana Republic and my Joe’s boyfriend jeans. My new mixed metal statement necklace from Banana Republic added the perfect finishing touch with my Chanel sunnies.

This outfit was a little more boho than I am used to, but it was fun to be outside of my comfort zone. I love that I can wear my scarves this way. I think the scarf/vest would make a great bathing suit cover up.

Homework: How would you style this scarf/vest?

Dress Code: Las Vegas, Day 1

imageI just came back from a super fun three day trip to Las Vegas. It’s an annual event with a group of teacher friends. We always head out the weekend after school gets out, so it is a much needed vacation. I love to travel and packing just the right outfits is a little bit like a game for me. I feel a sense of accomplishment if I wear everything I bring and don’t overpack.

Today, I will share what I wore on the first day of our trip. My good friend Brian served as my guest blog photographer. I paid him in mini bottles of Crown Royal.

I like to be comfortable when I fly and I am always cold on airplanes. I wore cute denim Bermudas from Old Navy with a black tank, also from Old Navy. My Eat More Rabbit Food long-sleeved t-shirt kept me warm on the plane ride. It is so cozy! My leopard Coach hat and black Tory Burch sandals completed the look. Once we landed, I put the t-shirt into carry on and I was ready for the Vegas weather.

imageFor my first night out, I wore a nude illusion bedazzled shirt from Ann Taylor. I bought this top in February for $15 and Vegas was the perfect place to wear it for the first time! My Joe’s boyfriend jeans and my silver Tory Burch Reva’s were the perfect finishing touches. This outfit brought me good luck. I won $350 at O’Shea’s!

Homework: What is your favorite Vegas outfit?

Dress Code: Feeling kind of blue… Dodger blue!

imageOn Saturday, I went to the Dodger’s/Giant’s game with my workout buddies, Kathy and Patti. We had such a fun day! I didn’t have anything royal blue to wear to the game, so I went to Old Navy in search of a cute t-shirt or tank top. I found this cute royal blue and white stripped boat-necked t-shirt and it was on sale for only $2.99. Done! I wore it with my favorite Joe’s boyfriend jeans and my black Tory Burch sandals. The accessories are what made this outfit. I knew it would be hot, so my trusty fedora was a must. I wore my Coach locket, with a picture of my niece and nephew inside, with my C. Wonder initial bracelet and my Banana Republic black and white crossbody bag.

imageI had only been to Dodger Stadium once before and it was for a high school CIF baseball game. Since this was my first official Dodger game, I wanted to take it all in and experience everything. We had great seats and Kathy brought a big bag of peanuts for us. The first thing we did was buy ice cold beers to enjoy with our shelled peanuts.

imageWhen it was time for a Dodger dog, I decided to go big or go home and went for the Extreme Dodger dog that was wrapped in bacon and covered with peppers and onions. Kathy and Patti went for the traditional Dodger dog and added an order of garlic fries. They smelled so good, but unfortunately, they smelled better than they tasted. My Extreme Dodger dog was amazing and well worth the calories! In my defense, I did go to two boot camp style classes before leaving for the game. I always have fun whenever I go anywhere with Patti and Kathy!

imageAn added bonus to this fun day is that my sorority sister, Lisa, happened to be at the game with her family so I got to see her and hang out for a bit!
