Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we wear camo and fancy baubles!

imageI eyed this Bauble Bar statement necklace at Nordstrom for the last couple of months… and now it’s mine.

Funny story, I went to Nordstrom last weekend to return two bracelets that I bought during the summer Anniversary Sale. The bracelets were really cute, but would not stay closed. I thought I paid the sale price of $17.99 for each bracelet, but when the sales associate looked up my purchase, it turned out I paid $28 for each bracelet. This amazing Bauble Bar statement necklace was on sale for $30, and since I returned the two bracelets, it was technically FREE! Yay!

I wanted to wear this necklace with something fun, so of course, I pulled out my favorite Gap camo khakis. I paired them with a black tunic from Brass Plum at Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. I added a few Kate Spade bracelets and I was ready for a great day.

Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we color block!

imageThis dress is one of my favorite purchases from the Gap. It was on sale and a great deal. It’s very simple and super comfortable. It’s perfect for a busy morning when I need to get ready quickly after my morning workout. I threw it on in a hurry and added my Kate Spade orange Popsicle pendant necklace. My navy Cole Hahn wedges completed the look. I love that the Popsicle necklace perfectly matches the bottom stripe on the dress.

Homework: What is your favorite fall color block look?

Dress Code: Stripes and initials

imageToday, I wore a really simple navy and maroon jersey striped dress that I recently bought at the Gap factory store at the Carlsbad outlet mall. The dress was only $30 and it’s a great grab and go option. It’s perfect for mornings when I need to get ready at the gym, since it doesn’t wrinkle and will roll up nicely in my gym bag. Since the dress is rather plain, I decided to play with necklaces of varying lengths. I wore three of my favorites and I think they really compliment one another. I layered my Kate Spade “one in a million” initial disk necklace with my Coach heart locket, and my C. Wonder “H” script necklace. I love the way the necklaces make the dress stand out! Now I’m looking at all my necklaces and trying to figure out other combinations to layer together.

Dress Code: A weekend at the happiest place in earth!

imageI spent the weekend at Disneyland. It’s an annual tradition with some of my best friends(this was our 8th year). On Saturday, we spent the entire day at California Adventure. It was so much fun! We went on all the best rides and enjoyed all the tourist traps. Soarin’ Over California is my absolute favorite ride in the park. We ended the day watching World of Color, and it was amazing, as usual. On Sunday morning, we headed to Downtown Disney and had brunch at the Jazz Kitchen. The chicken and waffles was to die for!

Now on to my outfits…

On Saturday, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with my black and white heart print tank top from Banana Republic. I just added my straw fedora, a black and white animal print cross body purse, and Tory Burch sandals.

On Sunday, I continued with the black and white theme and wore my white Gap boyfriend jeans with a black flower embellished tank from Banana Republic. I added the same accessories to this outfit… shoes, hat and purse. It made packing super easy!

I wish I had a picture of the outfit I wore down to the hotel bar on Saturday night. I didn’t pack an extra outfit for the evening and I had been in my Disney ensemble for about 15 hours. I had to get out of my jeans! I only had my black Gap pajamas… Well, I wore them with confidence. No one even knew they were pajamas, because they look like loungewear and I added some fun jewelry to dress up the ensemble, black pants and a tank top. It was a make it work moment!

Dress Code: Ciao, baby!

imageI am in love with this black and white striped “ciao” sweater from the Banana Republic outlet. The day I was there, everything in the store was 50% off, so the sweater was only $25. It’s so cute and versatile. Today, I layered it with my Gap denim work shirt and my black leather Anthropolgy skirt. I always have to have more than one pattern in the mix, so my leopard and lace Tory Butch pumps added just the right amount of interest to the outfit. A few bracelets, including a Charming Charlie leopard wrap and Banana Republic red enamel bangle, were the finishing touches.

This sweater works well for work, but will also look adorable with jeans and my leopard ballet flats.

Homework: It’s Friday, take the night off!

Passing Notes: The Carlsbad outlet mall

imageWhen I was driving back from San Diego on Sunday, I saw the Carlsbad outlet mall out of my peripheral vision. It would have been rude not to stop, right?

I’m getting so much better at outlet shopping. I don’t need to go in every store and I only buy things that are bargains and fabulous. I did quite well on this trip.

I started at Kate Spade. I found a great black and white striped overnight bag. It folds into a pouch for storage and will be great for traveling or as an extra gym bag. I also bought a pair of large rhinestone, go-with-everything earrings. The entire store was 40% off and the overnight bag was additional 20% off on top of the 40%. Score!

Then I headed to Banana Republic. I was very selective. I found a black silk pleated midi skirt and a black sweater. The skirt was $70, but then it was 60% off. I had a $20 reward coupon so the skirt was basically $8. I wore it to school today and I love it. I predict it will be one of my favorite fall purchases.

Then, I went to the Gap. I found a super cute maroon and navy striped dress and a super comfy pair of black pajamas. These items were on sale, but not super cheap. I just liked the simplicity of the dress. It will be perfect on a busy morning when I don’t want to overthink my outfit. I love Gap pj’s! The fabric is so soft. I think this is the fourth or fifth pair I have bought. I like this pair in black because they look more like lounge wear and less like pajamas. I could go and get my mail wearing this outfit and not be embarrassed if I ran into a neighbor.

My last stop was at the Crate and Barrel outlet. I broke a few of my water glasses and I was lucky that they carried the same style. In addition to the glasses, I found some super cute to-go cardboard food containers. I don’t know what I will use them for, but I knew I had to have them. The black and white pattern would look adorable with an orange tulle bow and filled with Halloween treats.

All in all, this was a successful visit and I am happy with my purchases!

Homework: What is your all-time favorite outlet purchase?

Dress Code: Sunday = fun day!

imageI had such a fun weekend! I headed down to San Diego for a birthday celebration on Saturday night. Of course, that led to brunch on Sunday morning to debrief the soirĂ©e. The party was in Hillcrest, so we walked a few blocks to a cute little restaurant for breakfast. I packed my white Gap boyfriend jeans and a black j’adore graphic t-shirt from Old Navy for Sunday. I wore them with a Coach leopard hat, a pink Kate Spade bracelet, and my black Tory Burch sandals. I always pack a hat when I travel, just in case of a bad hair day. Let’s just say, I’m glad that I had it! The outfit worked well for brunch and outlet shopping on the way home. Details on my shopping purchases will be shared this week!

Homework: What is your favorite brunch outfit?

Dress Code: Showing my school spirit in pearls and plaid!

imageSpirit days at my school are so much fun! Each grade level is assigned a class color: red, white, or blue. Since I represent all grades, I always wear all three colors. So, I decided to recycle my 4th of July shirt and pearls combo. I wore a red, white, and blue plaid shirt from Banana Republic with navy khaki pants from Gap. My navy Cole Hahn wedges were perfect for a day that involved a ton of steps and running around. To jazz up the outfit, I piled on my long pearls from C. Wonder(worn as a triple strand) and a pearl bow necklace from Ann Taylor Loft. Pearls and plaid are a fabulous combination!

Homework: How would you incorporate red, white, and blue into a spirit day outfit?

Dress Code: This shirt “bee” on repeat!

imageThis hot pink, bee print shirt from Banana Republic is just too cute! I seriously can’t even handle it. I wore it to work last week with a pencil skirt and knew it would look equally adorable on the weekend. I wore it to a casual party with my white Gap boyfriend jeans and my black Tory Burch sandals. I stacked on a few Kate Spade bracelets and my gold hoop earrings and I was ready for the party. I love adding items to my wardrobe that can be dressed up for work and can also be worn with casual pieces on the weekend.

Homework: What would you wear with this bee print shirt?

Dress Code: One LBD… two ways

imageLast night was my school’s Back to School. I knew I wasn’t going to have time to go home and change between the end of the school day and the start of the evening event, so I needed to get creative. I decided to use my black sheath dress from Banana Republic as a base and create two unique outfits with it.

For my daytime look(on the left), I wore the dress with a black bow belt from Banana Republic and my black and tan Cole Hahn spectator wedges. I completed the outfit with a neon geometric cardigan from Gap and my hot pink Kendra’s Scott tassel necklace. It was a perfect school day outfit.

Right before Back to School Night, I made a quick switch-a-roo! I swapped out the cardigan out for a black and white fitted blazer and then changed to a leopard print belt. I love mixing stripes and leopard. I then added a hot pink statement necklace, which makes this entire outfit from Banana Republic. The only non-Banana item was my Coach wedges. This outfit was professional and polished. My walkie talkie and clipboard completed the look!

Using a simple black dress as a base was an easy solution for two events in one day. I’m glad I didn’t have to pack a separate outfit in a garment bag, drag it to school, and then find a place to hang it during the day.

Homework: What do you have in your closet that can do double duty for daytime and evening events?
