Dress Code: Texture, pattern and shine on a Friday!

imageI love how this outfit came together, and it follows the fashion philosophy of Stacy and Clinton from TLC’s “What Not to Wear.” Stacy and Clinton always emphasized that an outfit should include texture, pattern and shine. I loved that show and really miss it! Today’s outfit is in their honor…

I recently bought this cute red top at the Banana Republic outlet and it was only $12. I wore it with my black leather Anthropology skirt (shine) and my black quilted cardigan from Nordstrom (texture). I then added my leopard and lace Tory Burch pumps (pattern). I finished the look with a couple of bracelets, including a leopard wrap bracelet from Charming Charlie (pattern) and a few Kate Spade bangles, and my black quilted patent leather Tory Burch tote bag (texture and shine).

Homework: How would you mix texture, pattern and shine?

Special Assembly: Halloween made easy with a DIY costume

imageHalloween is right around the corner and I really hate dressing up. I always try to figure out a clever costume that is mostly made up of my own clothes. This year, we have a Halloween dress up day and dance on Friday the 24th and then I have a couple of parties Halloween weekend. I saw an idea on Pinterest and ran with it! I decided to be a bank robber since I had almost all the components in my closet. I started with a black and white striped long sleeved t-shirt that I bought over Columbus weekend at Banana Republic. Everything was 40% off, so this leather trimmed top was only $25. I’m going to wear it with black leggings, a plain black beanie, and black gloves. I needed to buy two things to complete the costume. The black mask that I found at Party City for $3.99 was perfect. The next item was a little more challenging. I needed a money bag. I found a plain canvas bag at Walmart for .99 cents and then bought black puffy paint, also .99 cents. I sketched a large dollar sign on the tote and the painted it with the puffy paint. Done!

Homework: What are you going to be for Halloween?

Dress Code: Could I be wearing any more accessories?

imageToday was all about the accessories! I wore my black and white, geometric print pleated skirt from Banana Republic with my black and gold studded Michael Kor’s t-shirt. Then I started piling on a ton of fun jewelry. I liked the way yesterday’s necklaces looked, so I found three more to wear together. I started with a long gold mini tassel necklace from C. Wonder, then added a single tassel pendant necklace from Ann Taylor, and finished the look with a vintage Chanel button charm that I bought at a Christmas boutique. The bracelets came next! I started with my hot pink, Kate Spade leather bow bracelet for a pop if color. A few more Kate Spade bangles and a multi-strand leather and chain bracelet from Forever 21 created the perfect arm party! Lots of accessories for a fun day!

Dress Code: A weekend at the happiest place in earth!

imageI spent the weekend at Disneyland. It’s an annual tradition with some of my best friends(this was our 8th year). On Saturday, we spent the entire day at California Adventure. It was so much fun! We went on all the best rides and enjoyed all the tourist traps. Soarin’ Over California is my absolute favorite ride in the park. We ended the day watching World of Color, and it was amazing, as usual. On Sunday morning, we headed to Downtown Disney and had brunch at the Jazz Kitchen. The chicken and waffles was to die for!

Now on to my outfits…

On Saturday, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with my black and white heart print tank top from Banana Republic. I just added my straw fedora, a black and white animal print cross body purse, and Tory Burch sandals.

On Sunday, I continued with the black and white theme and wore my white Gap boyfriend jeans with a black flower embellished tank from Banana Republic. I added the same accessories to this outfit… shoes, hat and purse. It made packing super easy!

I wish I had a picture of the outfit I wore down to the hotel bar on Saturday night. I didn’t pack an extra outfit for the evening and I had been in my Disney ensemble for about 15 hours. I had to get out of my jeans! I only had my black Gap pajamas… Well, I wore them with confidence. No one even knew they were pajamas, because they look like loungewear and I added some fun jewelry to dress up the ensemble, black pants and a tank top. It was a make it work moment!

Dress Code: Ciao, baby!

imageI am in love with this black and white striped “ciao” sweater from the Banana Republic outlet. The day I was there, everything in the store was 50% off, so the sweater was only $25. It’s so cute and versatile. Today, I layered it with my Gap denim work shirt and my black leather Anthropolgy skirt. I always have to have more than one pattern in the mix, so my leopard and lace Tory Butch pumps added just the right amount of interest to the outfit. A few bracelets, including a Charming Charlie leopard wrap and Banana Republic red enamel bangle, were the finishing touches.

This sweater works well for work, but will also look adorable with jeans and my leopard ballet flats.

Homework: It’s Friday, take the night off!

Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we wear orange tassels!

imageI have been eyeing this orange tassel necklace for months, and on Saturday I finally bought it. Sometimes you need a little pick me up! This necklace was $25 and I found it at my hair salon, Parks Salon in Laguna Niguel. I really needed to give my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace a rest! This necklace also came in yellow and pink. I decided the bright orange color would be the most versatile for me and my wardrobe. I planned today’s outfit around this new necklace. I wore it with a leather- trimmed black sheath dress from Banana Republic and my neon pink J. Crew cardigan. I love mixing orange and hot pink together! It’s one of my favorite color combinations.

Homework: What would you wear with a bright orange tassel necklace?

Dress Code: Working my new midi skirt

imageToday, I wanted to wear my new black pleated midi skirt that I bought at the Banana Republic outlet for $20. Get used to it, because I will be wearing it a lot this season! This type of skirt can be unflattering for my body type. It’s all about choosing the right shirt. It can’t be too long or too short, and it needs to fitted in order to be flattering. I decided to wear my new favorite skirt with a black and white stripped sleeveless t-shirt from Old Navy and bright yellow short-sleeved cardigan from Ann Taylor Loft. I finished the outfit with my Tory Burch leopard and lace pumps and a huge black ribbon and rhinestone statement necklace from Banana Republic.

Dress Code: Happy fall, y’all!

imageI made a decision this week. I’m over the summer-like weather and officially dressing for fall. I have so many cute fall purchases ready and waiting to be worn. Today, I needed a two for one outfit; a daytime and evening look. For school, I wore my Vince Camuto black, leather trimmed leggings from last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale with a short- sleeved black sweater that I picked up from the Banana Republic outlet last weekend. I knew I needed a pop if color, so I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace, my hot pink Kate Spade bangle and my new Stacy Brown Design monogram beaded bracelet. My Coach wedges completed the look. Fridays are made for leggings and comfy sweaters!

imageAfter school, I was headed to a high school football game. Since I was going to be on the field, my open-toed wedges were not going to work. All I needed to do was switch out my shoes for my Enzo Angiolini riding boots. I bought these boots at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in July and this was my first opportunity to wear them. The boots are super cute and comfortable and I know I will be wearing them a lot this season.

Homework: What are most excited to wear this fall season?

Dress Code: leopard+hot pink+monogram=fabulous

imageLeopard, hot pink, and a monogram… I love it when all my favorite things come together in one outfit! Even though it is still rather hot out, I decided to dress for fall and wear one of my new favorite sweaters. I bought this leopard print sweater a few weeks ago at the Banana Republic outlet for $25. Since it was a warm day, I didn’t layer it with anything. I do think it will look really chic with my denim worksheet underneath when it get a little chilly. This cute sweater paired perfectly with my classic Halogen black pencil from Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. I decided to skip the necklace and pile on the bracelets. I was really excited about wearing my new Stacy Brown Design tassels monogram beaded bracelet. It’s adorable and it was only $19.99. I added a coral and pink bangle from Banana Republic with a hot pink bangle from Kate Spade. The orange and hot pink accessories gave this outfit just the right pop of color!

Homework: What will you wear on the first cool day of fall?

Passing Notes: The Carlsbad outlet mall

imageWhen I was driving back from San Diego on Sunday, I saw the Carlsbad outlet mall out of my peripheral vision. It would have been rude not to stop, right?

I’m getting so much better at outlet shopping. I don’t need to go in every store and I only buy things that are bargains and fabulous. I did quite well on this trip.

I started at Kate Spade. I found a great black and white striped overnight bag. It folds into a pouch for storage and will be great for traveling or as an extra gym bag. I also bought a pair of large rhinestone, go-with-everything earrings. The entire store was 40% off and the overnight bag was additional 20% off on top of the 40%. Score!

Then I headed to Banana Republic. I was very selective. I found a black silk pleated midi skirt and a black sweater. The skirt was $70, but then it was 60% off. I had a $20 reward coupon so the skirt was basically $8. I wore it to school today and I love it. I predict it will be one of my favorite fall purchases.

Then, I went to the Gap. I found a super cute maroon and navy striped dress and a super comfy pair of black pajamas. These items were on sale, but not super cheap. I just liked the simplicity of the dress. It will be perfect on a busy morning when I don’t want to overthink my outfit. I love Gap pj’s! The fabric is so soft. I think this is the fourth or fifth pair I have bought. I like this pair in black because they look more like lounge wear and less like pajamas. I could go and get my mail wearing this outfit and not be embarrassed if I ran into a neighbor.

My last stop was at the Crate and Barrel outlet. I broke a few of my water glasses and I was lucky that they carried the same style. In addition to the glasses, I found some super cute to-go cardboard food containers. I don’t know what I will use them for, but I knew I had to have them. The black and white pattern would look adorable with an orange tulle bow and filled with Halloween treats.

All in all, this was a successful visit and I am happy with my purchases!
