Dress Code: Stripes and initials

imageToday, I wore a really simple navy and maroon jersey striped dress that I recently bought at the Gap factory store at the Carlsbad outlet mall. The dress was only $30 and it’s a great grab and go option. It’s perfect for mornings when I need to get ready at the gym, since it doesn’t wrinkle and will roll up nicely in my gym bag. Since the dress is rather plain, I decided to play with necklaces of varying lengths. I wore three of my favorites and I think they really compliment one another. I layered my Kate Spade “one in a million” initial disk necklace with my Coach heart locket, and my C. Wonder “H” script necklace. I love the way the necklaces make the dress stand out! Now I’m looking at all my necklaces and trying to figure out other combinations to layer together.

Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we wear hot pink and leopard

imageI wear my leopard “MC” Hammer pants from H & M on days I know are going to be super busy. They are so comfortable, almost like pajamas! Today, I wore them with a simple black tunic from the Brass Plum at Nordstrom and my Coach wedges. If I wear these pants with flats, they look really casual. As soon as I add a heel or wedge, it instantly dresses up the pants and makes them appropriate for work. To complete my look for the school day, I added my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace and a hot pink Kate Spade bangle bracelet. If I’m wearing leopard and black, I almost always add hot pink as an accent color. It’s such a fun color combination!

Home Economics: Two ingredient pumpkin cookies

imageMy pumpkin obsession continues with the easiest recipe ever! All you need for the world’s greatest pumpkin cookies is a box of spice cake mix and a can of pumpkin. That’s it! Click here for the official recipe on the Cookies and Cups website. It’s so simple!

You can add frosting to the cookies or make them into muffins. You could also add chocolate chips or toffee bits! The possibilities are endless!

A box of cake mix with a can of pumpkin and the cookie recipe would make an awesome hostess gift!

Homework: What would you add to the pumpkin cookie recipe?

Dress Code: A weekend at the happiest place in earth!

imageI spent the weekend at Disneyland. It’s an annual tradition with some of my best friends(this was our 8th year). On Saturday, we spent the entire day at California Adventure. It was so much fun! We went on all the best rides and enjoyed all the tourist traps. Soarin’ Over California is my absolute favorite ride in the park. We ended the day watching World of Color, and it was amazing, as usual. On Sunday morning, we headed to Downtown Disney and had brunch at the Jazz Kitchen. The chicken and waffles was to die for!

Now on to my outfits…

On Saturday, I wore my Joe’s boyfriend jeans with my black and white heart print tank top from Banana Republic. I just added my straw fedora, a black and white animal print cross body purse, and Tory Burch sandals.

On Sunday, I continued with the black and white theme and wore my white Gap boyfriend jeans with a black flower embellished tank from Banana Republic. I added the same accessories to this outfit… shoes, hat and purse. It made packing super easy!

I wish I had a picture of the outfit I wore down to the hotel bar on Saturday night. I didn’t pack an extra outfit for the evening and I had been in my Disney ensemble for about 15 hours. I had to get out of my jeans! I only had my black Gap pajamas… Well, I wore them with confidence. No one even knew they were pajamas, because they look like loungewear and I added some fun jewelry to dress up the ensemble, black pants and a tank top. It was a make it work moment!

Honor Roll: Popped Potato chips and pumpkin pancake mix

imageI love Trader Joe’s! Finding new products to try is so much fun. Today, I found two new things to test…

This pumpkin pancake mix is amazing. I have been eating pumpkin pancakes for dinner all week! They are that good and really easy to make. You just need to add milk, an egg, and some melted butter. Delicious! I might plan a brunch just so I can serve this awesome fall treat and watch other people enjoy them.

I love barbecue flavored Pop Chips. I was excited to find that Trader Joe’s had their own version called Popped Potato Chips. I had to try them to see if they were comparable to the original brand. They were… as evidenced by the empty bag in the picture! Plus, they were only $1.99. You must try them!

Head to Trader Joe’s and try out these yummy products!

Dress Code: Ciao, baby!

imageI am in love with this black and white striped “ciao” sweater from the Banana Republic outlet. The day I was there, everything in the store was 50% off, so the sweater was only $25. It’s so cute and versatile. Today, I layered it with my Gap denim work shirt and my black leather Anthropolgy skirt. I always have to have more than one pattern in the mix, so my leopard and lace Tory Butch pumps added just the right amount of interest to the outfit. A few bracelets, including a Charming Charlie leopard wrap and Banana Republic red enamel bangle, were the finishing touches.

This sweater works well for work, but will also look adorable with jeans and my leopard ballet flats.

Homework: It’s Friday, take the night off!

Home Economics: The donut tower

imageThis morning I needed a quick and easy treat to bring to a morning meeting. I didn’t have time to make anything or go the grocery store, so I needed to get creative. I started by pulling out my stainless steel pedestal cake stand. I bought it at Target years ago. If you don’t have a cake stand, any platter will work. I pass a 7-11 on my way to work, so I stopped there and bought two packs of full size chocolate donuts, two packs of mini powdered donuts, two packs of mini crumb donuts, and one 2-pack of Hostess cupcakes. Once I got to work, I removed the packaging and created a fun pattern. It turned out really cute! It was super easy and cost less than $10. You definitely can use other breakfast treats, just look for products that come in three different sizes, so the “tower” is in proportion. Have fun with this idea and share any ideas that you have!

Dress Code: On Wednesday’s we wear orange tassels!

imageI have been eyeing this orange tassel necklace for months, and on Saturday I finally bought it. Sometimes you need a little pick me up! This necklace was $25 and I found it at my hair salon, Parks Salon in Laguna Niguel. I really needed to give my hot pink Kendra Scott tassel necklace a rest! This necklace also came in yellow and pink. I decided the bright orange color would be the most versatile for me and my wardrobe. I planned today’s outfit around this new necklace. I wore it with a leather- trimmed black sheath dress from Banana Republic and my neon pink J. Crew cardigan. I love mixing orange and hot pink together! It’s one of my favorite color combinations.

Homework: What would you wear with a bright orange tassel necklace?

The Beauty Locker: Pumpkin Body Butter

imageFall makes me crave all things pumpkin flavored and scented. It smells and tastes so good! One of my favorite fall purchases is Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Body Butter. It’s amazing! All year long, I buy the coconut version, and slather it all over me, but come fall, I stock up on the pumpkin scented lotion. Today, I bought six of them! They don’t last long in the stores at only $4.99, so you need to stock up while you can.

imageThey make great hostess gifts and birthday treats. I have a gift closet downstairs, where I keep things that I can use at the last minute when I need a gift for someone. Lotions and potions make great gifts for everyone. I also buy scented candles, holiday or floral napkins, and cute coasters. I try to never arrive at a party empty handed.

Dress Code: Working my new midi skirt

imageToday, I wanted to wear my new black pleated midi skirt that I bought at the Banana Republic outlet for $20. Get used to it, because I will be wearing it a lot this season! This type of skirt can be unflattering for my body type. It’s all about choosing the right shirt. It can’t be too long or too short, and it needs to fitted in order to be flattering. I decided to wear my new favorite skirt with a black and white stripped sleeveless t-shirt from Old Navy and bright yellow short-sleeved cardigan from Ann Taylor Loft. I finished the outfit with my Tory Burch leopard and lace pumps and a huge black ribbon and rhinestone statement necklace from Banana Republic.
